Auto Brand Naming for KIA’s Flagship SUV 5th Generation Sportage

In a noteworthy collaboration within the realm of Auto Brand Naming, Labbrand joined forces with KIA, a highly regarded South Korean automobile manufacturer. The focus of this collaboration centered around the development of a captivating Chinese name for their flagship SUV, the 5th Generation Sportage. The fruit of this joint effort is the eloquently crafted Chinese name—狮铂拓界 [Shī Bó Tuò Jiè].

This meticulously chosen name goes beyond being a mere linguistic representation; it encapsulates the very essence of the KIA brand. The characters 狮 [Shī], meaning lion, embody strength and power, symbolizing the dynamic and robust nature of the vehicle. 铂 [Bó], representing platinum, conveys a sense of premium quality, aligning with KIA’s commitment to excellence. Together with 拓界 [Tuò Jiè], which translates to broadening horizons, the name harmoniously echoes the vehicle’s progressive design and the brand’s forward-looking ethos.

Moreover, the Chinese name serves as a meaningful reflection of KIA’s dedication to safety, assuring consumers of a secure and reliable driving experience. Through the strategic interplay of linguistic nuances, Labbrand has successfully crafted a name that not only resonates with the Chinese audience but also communicates the core values and attributes that define KIA’s flagship SUV, the 5th Generation Sportage.

Challenge

The challenge for KIA was to find a Chinese name that not only aligned with the original brand name but also captured the surging power and spirit of the 5th Generation Sportage. Additionally, the name needed to highlight the vehicle’s high performance and emphasize its world-leading safety assistant driving system.

Auto Brand Naming for KIA

Solution

The Chinese name 狮铂拓界 [Shī Bó Tuò Jiè] maintains consistency with the previous generation of Sportage, known as 狮跑 [Shī Pǎo] (lion | run), while adding the element of 铂 [Bó] (platinum) to symbolize sophistication and luxury. The term 拓界 [Tuò Jiè] reflects the vehicle’s capability to venture into new territories. This auto brand naming captures the original brand’s sound and meaning while effectively conveying the desired brand associations and attributes.
