Labbrand Creates Chinese Name 适乐肤 for L’Oréal’s Skincare Brand CeraVe

SHANGHAI, October 23, 2018 – CeraVe, a skincare company owned by L’Oréal, recently launched its Chinese brand identity, including a Chinese brand name created by Labbrand.

CeraVe was founded in 2005 and acquired by L’Oréal 2017. Since its conception, every CeraVe product is developed with leading dermatologists. The brand now offers a range of products including as cleansers, moisturizers and healing ointments that are accessible and highly effective.

Labbrand, the leading China-originated global brand consultancy, worked closely with CeraVe and L’Oréal to create the Chinese name for the brand, which aimed to echo its core product attributes – simple, soothing and suited for all skin types.

The final name 适乐肤 [shì lè fū] is chosen, a Chinese name with a smooth-sounding quality which reflects the cosmeceutical brand truth while also maintaining similar pronunciation in Chinese to the original brand name. 适[shì] means suited and proper, implying the versatile fit of CeraVe’s products in catering towards all skin types. 乐 [lè] means happiness and joy, eliciting a calming and easing effect that leads to satisfaction after using CeraVe’s products. Lastly, 肤[fū] directly translates to skin. Combined, the name elicits the pleasant meaning of “proper care for your skin.”
