Using Twitter to Increase Brand Awareness

“Twitter”, the popular social media tool, is today’s new Internet phenomenon. Twitter originally started off as a simple micro-blogging site for letting your friends know “What are you doing now?" in 140 characters or less. Recently Twitter has exploded into a mass media platform and has awakened a lot of companies to how social media can be used to communicate about their brand.

Twitter is already showing great promise as a tool for brand-building. Celebrities, major corporations and small companies –including Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher, Oprah, Google, Accenture, Starbucks, Pepsi, Intel and many more –have set up Twitter accounts to raise awareness about their brand, their name, or their company. This is often achieved by posting instant news and updates for their “followers”. Twitter users can also “tweet back”, serving as a quick and effective communication channel between brands and their users. The more touchpoints a brand has with its target market, the more opportunities there are to strengthen the brand in the minds of the consumers.

As increasing numbers of companies and individuals utilize Twitter to increase awareness, it has helped Twitter build a strong name for itself as well. Twitter, being only 3 years old, is still evolving. Let's see what this social media company has in store. By the way, if you aren’t already following Labbrand on Twitter, you can do so here!
